Abstract
Academic Press has introduced a new series entitled "Ultrastructure in Biological Systems." Prime emphasis in this series is to be placed on "pertinence of subject matter, excellence in reproduction of electron micrographs, and rapidity of publication". The first volume, "Tumors Induced by Viruses", fulfills all these objectives. It is a 229-page monograph edited by Albert J. Dalton and Francoise Haguenau with H. Febvre, J. W. Beard, Karl-Hermann Hollman, Dan H. Moore, Robert R. Dourmashkin, and Etienne De Harven as contributors. There are 50 plates and all of them are of excellent quality. The monograph is divided into 6 sections. The first is a discussion of virus-induced sarcomas and leukemias of birds. The Rous sarcoma, a member of this group, was the first solid tumor shown to be transmissible by an ultrafiltrate. The Rous virus causes malignant transformation of either granulocytes, erythrocytes, or lymphocytes. The viruses may be grown in tissue
