Abstract

This paper presents preliminary research on architectural materials recently excavated in Anyang, Henan, including Huanbei palaces no. 1 and 2 and a previously-looted large Shang tomb in J{jaotun. Three types of material - rammed earth, adobe, and wattle and daub - were systematically counted, observed and analyzed in their abandoned contexts. Results were then compared with published data from other pre-Qin sites, in oider to reconstruct the characteristics of Shang culture architecture.
