Abstract

After some theoretical recalls, we perform an experimental study of some statistical properties of random variables, i.e., the number of times a level is crossed in a positive direction by a random stationary gaussian function (later, with the addition of a sinusoidal signal). The performance of a signal detection system by means of counting the number of times a level is crossed by the input function is then derived.
