Abstract

In order to inventory the plants used in traditional medicine in the city of Fez, an ethnobotanical survey was conducted among a representative sample of the population. Seventy-five percent of people surveyed use plants for their medical care. Seventy-five species grouped into 41 families have been identified to treat 34 diseases. Inventoried plants are divided into 4 groups according to the frequency of citation. Most cited group is represented by: Lavandula dentata, Thymus vulgaris, Matricaria chamomilla, Rosmarinus officinalis, Allium sativum, Origanum vulgare, Eucalyptus globulus, Artemisia herba alba, Juniperus communis and Panax ginseng. The Lamiaceae family are the most cited. The leaves constitute the most used part. The infusion is the most practiced. preparation.
