Abstract

We present here an optical microscope study of heavy particle tracks induced by 3 GeV proton interactions in samples of mica, tektite, and olivine. The results are used to specify the conditions under which it should be possible to observe cosmic ray interactions in natural samples of these minerals. A new method of estimating cosmic ray exposure ages of tektites is also proposed.
