Abstract

The 28Si(p, γ) 29P reaction was used between E p = 371 and 2880 keV to study the γ-ray decay often excited states of 29P. Gamma-ray angular distributions were measured with Ge(Li) detectors and γ-γ angular correlations with a multicounter goniometer. Resonance strengths as well as γ-ray branching ratios have been measured precisely. Spin values of the 2.42, 3.45, 4.08, 4.95 and 5.29 MeV levels were found to be 3 2 , ( 7 2 ), 7 2 , 5 2 and 7 2 , respectively. were also measured. From Doppler-shift attenuation measurements the mean lives of the 1.38, 1.95, 2.42 and 4.08 MeV levels have been found as 240±70, 450±90, 25±12 and 15±4'fs, respectively. Additional measurements in the 28Si(d, nγ) 29P reaction yield the lifetimes of the 1.38, 1.95, 2.42 and 3.11 MeV levels as 205±25, 465±60, 33±11 and 33±15 fs, respectively. The 29P nuclear structure is discussed in the collective model and shell model framework.
