Abstract
Significance Effectively confirming Trump as the presumptive Republican nominee, the New Hampshire result starts a general election campaign that will see Trump and President Joe Biden repeating the presidential contest of four years ago, despite opinion polls continuing to show that the electorate would prefer a different choice. Impacts Haley will attempt to sustain a campaign until the March 5 'Super Tuesday' primaries but could fold before South Carolina next month. Biden will continue to strengthen his so-far underpowered campaign team for the contest with Trump. The Biden campaign is now predicated on facing Trump; were Trump to be forced out of the race, Biden’s candidacy becomes more questionable.
