Abstract

The authors were given the task of writing an article on the prevention of behavioural disorders within the framework of the scientific study day of 14th, November 2006 organised by the Inserm (National Institution of Medical Research). After having resumed the contents of chapter 17 and the recommendations of the report Inserm on the behavioural disorders, they describe the preventive procedures taken in France. They insist on the fact that effective prevention could not be reduced to short-term steps built up from selective programme but must be founded on general and long-term practice, in the framework of a stable policy of mental health care for children and adolescents. Certainly, progress needs to be made, but does this report have to be so severe within regard to the preventive practice in France?
