With great interest, we read the recent review by Roongsritong et al 1 Roongsritong C Warraich I Bradley C Common causes of troponin elevations in the absence of acute myocardial infarction: incidence and clinical significance. Chest. 2004; : 1877-1884 Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF Scopus (193) Google Scholar (May 2004) on the causes of elevations in troponin level in patients who had not experienced myocardial infarction, particularly the section about troponin levels in septic and critically ill patients. As the authors state, the exact mechanism of increased cardiac troponin levels in patients with sepsis remains unknown.
