Abstract

Bela Bartok had some compilations of folk music in Turkey in 1936 and discovered a class of Turkish melody which showed similarities with a class of Hungarian folk music. Some classes of melodies consist of just a few melodies because Bartok deducted the attained results from very little material. In this paper, a great number of Turkish folk melodies were investigated and the criteria of classification were reviewed.
