Abstract
1. 14C-labeled substances, derived from cultures of Blakeslea trisporaplus, are converted to radioactive trisporic acids (TA) by B. trispora-minus. In the same manner, partial conversion of 14C-labeled substances, isolated from minus cultures, to 14C-labeled TA by a plus culture, is demonstrated. 2. The synthesis of these TA precursors is stimulated by TA itself in plus as well as in minus mycelia. This stimulating effect of TA is inhibited by 5-fluorouracil. 3. The high rate of TA synthesis in a mated culture of B. trispora can be explained by these results: TA exerts a strong promoting action upon its own synthesis.
