Abstract

Phase ambiguity resolution is the primary element of global positioning system (GPS) precise relative positioning. To resolve the GPS phase ambiguities, the so-called phase-code method, which adopts both phase and code measurements, is commonly used. However, since code measurement is more affected by signal multipath than phase measurement, code multipath has a major effect on the performance of ambiguity resolution. With the advent of triple-frequency signals to be transmitted by modernized GPS satellites, more phase linear combinations beneficial to ambiguity resolution can be generated. To remove the influence of code multipath, the aim of this study is to develop a postprocessing phase-only method that only uses triple-frequency phase measurements for ambiguity resolution. Experimental results based on simulated modernized GPS signals indicate that the phase-only method is effective for medium-range baselines.
