Abstract

ALTHOUGH trichinosis is widespread in its subclinical manifestations it may occur as a serious illness especially if myocarditis and encephalitis are complicating factors. Whereas infection classically arises from eating of pork, bear meat is a well recognized source of the disease in Alaska, Canada and Northern Europe. The epidemic reported here constitutes the first outbreak of trichinosis due to New England bear meat. All the patients purchased the bear meat at the same country store in Vermont.Case ReportsCase 1.
