Abstract

ALTHOUGH trichinosis is widespread in its subclinical manifestations it may occur as a serious illness especially if myocarditis and encephalitis are complicating factors. Whereas infection classically arises from eating of pork, bear meat is a well recognized source of the disease in Alaska, Canada and Northern Europe. The epidemic reported here constitutes the first outbreak of trichinosis due to New England bear meat.
