Abstract

In this chapter, the coefficient of friction, the lubrication mechanism, the inlet oil film thickness, the surface appearance, the interfacial temperature, the friction pick up, the rolling oil, and the roll in cold sheet rolling are explained. Concerning the coefficient of friction, the history is introduced and the coefficient of friction calculated from the rolling theory and the coefficient of friction measured by tribo-simulator are discussed. From the coefficients of friction, the lubrication mechanism in cold sheet rolling is qualitatively proposed. In order to understand quantitatively the lubrication mechanism in neat oil and emulsion oil, the analyses of the inlet oil film thickness in neat oil and emulsion oil are explained. The quantitative relationships between inlet oil film thickness and surface appearance of workpiece in neat oil and emulsion oil are discussed. The analysis of the interfacial temperature is explained. The evaluation method of the antiseizure property of oils is proposed. Last, the oils and the rolls for cold sheet rolling are discussed.
