Abstract

NiCrW-Al2O3-SrCO3-Ag cermet composites were prepared, and the sintering properties, microstructure, mechanical properties and tribological behaviors of the composites were investigated. The results show that the composite with 5 wt% SrCO3 and 5 wt% Ag has the best friction and wear properties in a wide temperature range, which is attributed to the synergistic lubrication and antiwear role of the newly generated phases such as Sr2CrO4, NiO and WO2 caused by the chemical reactions and the inherent phases, e.g. Ag, NiCr2O4, Al2O3 and Cr2O3. The grain refinement, deformation and stress absorption of the wear track subsurface structure increase gradually under the coupling action of temperature and friction shear force, making high and low temperatures exhibit different wear mechanisms.
