The ‘daily bread’ for over six billion people today is largely derived from plant sources. The history of plant use reaches back uninterrupted to our earliest hominid ancestors. There is a long tradition of regarding the origins of agriculture (Hannery, 1973) as an important stage in the development of human society. Whilst acknowledging its significance, an equally profound revolution has passed unnoticed, this is the revolution in food processing and technology. The theme of the present paper is to discuss new ‘food technologies’ and the impact they have had, and are likely to have, on our society. Before we examine the ‘new’ food technologies, it

BackgroundObesity is one of the only modifiable risk factors for both incidence and progression of Osteoarthritis (OA). So there is increasing interest from a public health perspective in addressing obesity in the management of OA. While evidence of the efficacy of intereventions designed to address obesity in OA populations continues to grow, little is known about their economic credentials. The aim of this study is to conduct a scoping review of: (i) the published economic evidence assessing the economic impact of obesity in OA populations; (ii) economic evaluations of interventions designed to explicitly address obesity in the prevention and management of OA in order to determine which represent value for money. Besides describing the current state of the literature, the study highlights research gaps and identifies future research priorities.MethodsIn July 2014, a search of the peer reviewed literature, published in English, was undertaken for the period January 1975 – July 2014 using Medline Complete (Ebscohost), Embase, Econlit, Global Health, Health Economics Evaluation Database (HEED), all Cochrane Library databases as well as the grey literature using Google and reference lists of relevant studies. A combination of key search terms was used to identify papers assessing the economic impact of obesity in OA or economic evaluations conducted to assess the efficiency of obesity interventions for the prevention or management of OA.Results14 studes were identified; 13 were cost burden studies assessing the impact of obesity as a predictor for higher costs in Total Joint Arthroplasty (TJA) patients and one a cost-effectiveness study of an intervention designed to address obesity in the managment of mild to moderate OA patients.ConclusionThe majority of the economic studies conducted are cost burden studies. While there is some evidence of the association between severe obesity and excess hospital costs for TJA patients, heterogeneity in studies precludes definitive statements about the strength of the association. With only one economic evaluation to inform policy and practice, there is a need for future research into the cost-effectiveness of obesity interventions designed both for prevention or management of OA along the disease spectrum and over the life course.

In the modern era, world has experienced tremendous boost in the field of food science and technology, realising its impact on the economic growth and people’s standard of living. India is using its newer technology for food processing in the field of science and technology. We are among the world’s top nations in the number of scientific publications and patents in food technology. The government has made considerable investment and is encouraging public-private partnership to achieve self-reliance in different agricultural sectors. It has a strong presence in the field of biotechnology, particularly related to agriculture technology, including pre- and post-harvest management, processing technology etc.

Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a major source of pain, disability, and socioeconomic cost worldwide. In India, 80% of population suffers with OA who complains of knee pain. Annually, 10 million cases of OA are found. More than half of the people with OA are under 65 years of age. The best way of prevention and management of OA is regular exercise and maintenance of diet. Ignorance of the people, regarding preventive strategy, makes them more vulnerable to OA. Materials and Methods: A quantitative one-group pretest-posttest design was applied to assess knowledge and practice on prevention and management of OA among rural adults. Systematic random sampling was used to select 60 samples. Structured knowledge interview and practice rating scale were used to collect the data. Results: The study found significantly improvement in post-test knowledge (P ≤ 0.01) and practice score (P ≤ 0.01) of the adults regarding prevention and management of OA. The study reported significant correlation (P < 0.01) between post-test knowledge and practice score. The educational status (P ≤ 0.01), occupation (P = 0.0039), and monthly family income (P = 0.030) of the adults showed significantly association with post-test knowledge and practice. Conclusion: Structured teaching program has a major impact in improving knowledge and practice of adults regarding prevention and management of OA. Well-planned and demonstrated, nurse-led educational module will enhance the knowledge and improve the practice of the adult population

The 4th International Symposium on Food Science, Nutrition and Health (ISFSNH) was held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Dalian, China, on May 29-31, 2023. The symposium explored the connotations and needs of "The Great Food Perspective" under the theme "Focusing on new discoveries in food technology and creating a new future of nutrition and health" to better address the global emerging diverse food needs. The ISFSNH covered four areas: (1) food processing theory and technology, (2) food safety and quality control, (3) precision nutrition and health, and (4) creation of nutritious and healthy foods. More than 1000 scholars and entrepreneurs from more than 100 colleges and universities globally attended the conference. This special issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry highlights the important topics of the 4th ISFSNH and includes more than 20 papers.

Kata Kunci: Osteoarthritis, Promosi Kesehatan, Lansia ABSTRACT Osteoarthritis or joint inflammation is a degenerative disease or a disease that arises with aging, especially in the elderly. As people age, the risk of developing osteoarthritis increases, which can affect a person's quality of life. Osteoarthritis occurs due to the damage of joint cartilage tissue that can affect the knee joints, toes and fingers, spine, and pelvis. Therefore, education related to the prevention and management of osteoarthritis incidents is very important to enhance understanding of osteoarthritis in order to slow its progression. The goal of this health promotion is to enhance understanding of the management and prevention of osteoarthritis. The method used in this health promotion was an explanation or lecture with the aid of leaflets, conducted by the speaker to the participants directly, followed by a question-and-answer session. Based on the analysis results of the pre-test and post-test, there was an increase in participants' understanding of the prevention and management of osteoarthritis, with the pre-test score of 43.33% increasing to 50%. From the results of this health promotion activity, the lecture method with the aid of leaflets and direct question-and-answer sessions can enhance participants' understanding of the prevention and management of osteoarthritis, as evidenced by the increase in post-test scores.
