Abstract

The residual redundancy that persists in the transmitted parameters of a low bit rate speech coder are exploited to reduce the computational complexity of a Reed-Solomon (RS) trellis decoder. The use of RS codes for mobile telephony provides the opportunity for avoiding channel interleaving and so reduces one-way delay.
