Abstract
The sport coaches play an important role for quality sports practice, especially in grassroots and youth academies. In Brazil, access to sport is the most democratic of environments in the school context. However, information about the sport coaches who work with young people is still incipient. The main purpose is to know the profile of coaches in a school context in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The research has an exploratory character with a quali-quantitative approach. A semi-structured questionnaire was applied, using Google Doc, with 50 coaches participating in the Youth School Games of Mato Grosso. With a mean age of 35.4±9.54, it is noteworthy that 80% are men, who act as coaches between 6 and 10 years (28%) and 2 to 5 years (26%), with sports experience at state (40%) and national (36%) as a former athlete. Acting as a coach happens voluntarily (67.3%) and they consider the conditions at the training site to be adequate (56%). Investing in a valuation policy capable of guaranteeing the continuity and development of the coach in the long term in school sports is fundamental for access to quality sports practice.
