Abstract
Treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis with azothioprine ('Imuran') produced a remission, not previously described, in one non-icteric patient with a focal distribution of the disease on microscopy. A second icteric patient with a diffuse distribution of lesions and frank cirrhosis showed some subjective improvement without significant biochemical changes. This preliminary report should encourage more extensive trials in the use of azothioprine for primary biliary cirrhosis.
