This challenge is sometimes fraught with great difficulties. Perhaps particularly intriguing are those problems which arise in connection with prolonged icterus which has lasted many months or even years. It is in this group of cases that our patients with biliary cirrhosis belong.The term "cirrhosis" is used, although it is not entirely appropriate for the category of diseases under consideration.
