Abstract

A 17-year-old White female patient diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia underwent allogeneic unrelated bone marrow transplantation. On the D+150, the patient developed skin and lung lesions. Biopsies of the skin lesions were performed, and, through histopathologic analysis, the patient was diagnosed with graft-vs-host disease (GVHD). On D+200, the patient developed lesions in the oral cavity, complaining of pain and dryness. On intraoral examination, erythematous and ulcerated areas were observed, with hyperkeratotic streaks, in the regions of the buccal mucosa, tongue, and lips, compatible with the oral manifestation of GVHD. Due to the evolution and prognosis of the disease, the treatment choice was topical corticosteroids associated with laser therapy, favoring analgesia and repair. Although there are controversies about the application of laser in cases of GVHD, its use proved to be necessary and effective in the present case, emphasizing the importance of individualizing treatment proposals.
