Abstract

A 36-year-old man presented for an inferior scotoma in the left eye 2 weeks after being hit in that eye by another player’s finger while playing basketball. Snellen visual acuity was measured at 20/20. Dilated fundus examination of the left eye revealed preretinal and intraretinal hemorrhages, as well as cotton wool spots along the superior arcade (Fig A). Fluorescein angiography demonstrated branch retinal vein transection with early filling of the proximal segment and delayed filling of the distal segment (Fig B).
