Abstract

Alcohol use disorderAlcohol abuse disorder (AUD) is an addictive disorder characterized by the loss of the ability to control alcohol consumption and the persistence in its consumption despite its negative impact on the patients. It is considered as complex disorder of multifactorial etiology, in which biological, psychological and environmental-social factors interact. Alcohol intoxication and withdrawal syndrome are the most frequent clinical types. Regarding withdrawal syndrome, seizures and delirium tremens are its most common complications. Moreover, is related with important medical and psychiatric complications. Although several scales (CAGE, AUDIT) and biological markers can guide, the diagnosis it is mainly clinical. Treatment follows two stages: detoxication and dishabituation
