Abstract

The paper studies shippers' preferences for road and intermodal rail transport. A stated preference interview was performed on logistics managers of 95 manufacturing firms. A logit choice model is estimated and the relative importance of the main freight service attributes is identified. A scenario analysis is then performed which allows to evaluate how the various regulatory and efficiency scenarios affect the industry willingness to use intermodal rail transport. Their relevance for the current transport and infrastructure policy is then discussed.
