Abstract

The actual therapeutic strategies opposing the cardiovascular disease (CVD) are not able to completely arrest the progression of the atherosclerotic process. Over recent years, mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) transplantation has been emerging as a safe, and promising approach to treat CVD. Of note, different types of stem cells are available, and, among them, embryonic stem cells, MSCs, induced pluripotent stem cells, endothelial progenitor cells, and adipose-derived regenerative cells are under current investigation. In the present perspective, major emphasis will be placed on MSCs for their capacity to restore heart, and artery activities.
