Abstract

By simultaneously transmitting multiple waveforms, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar can obtain enhanced flexibility in transmit beampattern synthesis and signal processing. However, the most existing research works concentrate on matching the desired beampattern and neglect the following signal processing, such as pulse compression and adaptive receiving beamforming. As MIMO radar is able to synthesis different signal in different direction, pulse compression with the mainlobe synthesized signal may have obvious effect on spatial sidelobe suppression. Motivated by this issue, a novel MIMO radar transmit beampattern design method jointly considering pulse compression is proposed. Selecting matched filter according to the mainlobe synthesized signal, the cost function is established by minimizing sidelobe level. Compared to traditional orthogonal signal processing architecture, the proposed method provides large transmit gain and improved sidelobe control. Numerical simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed method.
