Abstract
An improved translation and explanation of Dongshan Liangji’s Bǎo-jing Sān-mèi (Jp. Hō-kyō Zan-mai) text, revealing an apparent link between the use of the ‘Five Ranks’ in this text and Shítóu Xīqiān’s – Cān-tóng-qì. Both seem to have a group of five couplets indirectly relating to the ‘Five Ranks’.
