Abstract
This issue's Works in Progress department features two transit and transport-related entries. The first entry, Traffic-Light Assistant, describes a traffic-light optimization project that will provide drivers with real-time state information about upcoming traffic lights. The second entry, Monitoring and Validating the Transport of Waste, discusses a multipronged approach to waste tracking and a management cycle that's composed of vehicle-based GPS trackers, waste-container sensor networks, and chemical markers in the actual waste itself. This department is part of a special issue on transit and transport.
