Abstract
A recursive algorithm is presented for the transient simulation of the high-speed interconnects in the VLSI and multichip modules (MCMs). By introducing some additional variables at the ends of transmission lines, the telegrapher's equations are changed into a set of linear equations in the frequency domain. Then a set of equations in the time domain is derived by the inverse Laplace transform. The timedomain equations take the form of the recursive formulas, which concern only the quantities at the ends of transmission lines. The algorithm can be employed to evaluate transient responses of high-speed interconnect circuits with high efficiency. Some examples indicate that the method gives high accuracy for timedomain simulation of the interconnects of high speed interconnects.
