Abstract
A model is presented for the time dependence of energy transfer between two incident beams and the concomitant grating formation in photorefractive materials. The theory includes the effects of birefringence, optical activity, and absorption of light. The predictions of the model are compared in detail with sets of experimental measurements performed with bismuth silicon oxide (BSO) crystals. Good agreement of the measured values and theory was found.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
