CALLUS formation from Nicotiana glauca pith tissue grown in vitro seems to be a particularly suitable test system for studying dedifferentiation processes in plant tissues. This is mainly because dedifferentiation in this case seems to follow a standardised time sequence on which a considerable amount of knowledge has become available from the cytological point of view1, 2
