Abstract

With the unity of definition and increased recognition, transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) has become one of the main reasons of death cause by transfusion. TRALI is the clinical syndrome mainly characterized by acute non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema and hypoxemia within hours after transfusion of blood or blood products. The pathogenesis has not been clear. The present studies indicate that TRALI is closely related to poor prognosis and mortality of patients, especially for critically ill patients. The blood component from multipara or containing HLA antibodies can certainly reduce the incidence of TRALI, but more effective measures to prevent TRALI should be further explored.
