Abstract

The advantage of Fe-Pd based ferromagnetic shape memory alloys is good ductility. In the present work we study the transformation and magnetic properties of Fe70-Pd30-XInX melt-spun ribbons. The phase formation is examined using X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy from 550K to 4K. By adding a small amount of Indium we succeeded to shift the transformation temperatures above room temperature. Furthermore, Mössbauer spectroscopy confirmed the transformational reversibility for Fe70Pd29.5In0.5 ribbons avoiding non-thermoelastic bct transition when cooling down to 4K and heating back above austenite transformation temperature.
