Abstract

Nasal, Harderian, and lacrymal glands of the domestic duck all accumulated [ 3H]corticosterone and converted it to 11-dehydrocorticosterone. After a 30-min incubation in vitro, nasal glands (slices) had converted 77% of the substrate to 11-dehydrocorticosterone; Harderian glands (slices), 22%; and lacrymal glands (pieces), 45%. There was no histochemical evidence for 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase in any of the three glands.
