Abstract

The presence of fluorescent material, associated with a “cascade of light” in the polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) which coats the silicon solar cells, allows an increase of 25% in the conversion efficiency of photovoltaic modules. This is due to two effects: (1) a better match between the incident radiation and the solar cell spectrum; (2) concentration of the radiation because of the total internal reflections in the PMMA matrix.
