Abstract

In the last decade, Brazilian economy moved from an optimistic perspective in 2010 to successive crises until 2020, such as the new coronavirus pandemic. Especially after 2014, the economic and political context were: the reduction in growth, the rise in inflation, the serious political crisis, and the severe fiscal austerity. Thus, the Brazilian State participation in the economy was diminished and the social policy suffered significant changes, with a reduction in their budget. In this scenario, the coronavirus pandemic introduced a large challenge to the Brazilian population, which it will depend more on the social policy. Therefore, this article intends to investigate the Brazilian social policy in the recent period (focus between 2015 until 2020), with an emphasis on the effects of the coronavirus crisis. To obtain it, the methodology is a bibliographic and data review, with a division of session as follows: an introduction, a brief conceptualization and recent evolution of Brazilian social policy, the preliminary effects expected from the coronavirus crisis and the final remarks.
