Transferencias culturales españolas a Costa Rica (Siglos XIX y XX).

Abstract

Inserted in the powerful flow of cultural transfers maintained in contemporary times between Europe and Latin America, people, objects, knowledge and methods of thought and intellectual work traveled from Spain to Costa Rica. Although most of their contributions responded to state demands, some resulted from requests made by Costa Rican civil society actors. Depending on the needs of the receiving party, the strategies implemented by it combined in different proportions the appropriation, reuse or rejection of what Spain issued. Prioritizing the context of reception and the role of cultural mediators, the article analyzes the use that the nineteenth-century project of the Costa Rican nation made of the cultural transfers received from Spain, the contribution of Spanish Krausism to liberal-democratic tendencies in that republic. and the collaboration of Spanish professors in the middle of the 20th century in the reform of the Costa Rican university system. Insertas en el poderoso flujo de transferencias culturales mantenido en época contemporánea entre Europa y América Latina, personas, objetos, saberes y métodos de pensamiento y trabajo intelectual viajaron de España a Costa Rica. Aunque la mayoría de esas transferencias respondieron a demandas estatales, algunas resultaron de peticiones realizadas por actores de la sociedad civil costarricense. En función de sus necesidades, las estrategias puestas en marcha por la parte receptora combinaron en distinta proporción la apropiación, la reutilización o el rechazo de lo que España emitía. Priorizando el contexto de la recepción y el rol de los mediadores culturales, el artículo analiza el uso que el proyecto decimonónico de nación costarricense hizo de las influencias culturales recibidas de España, la contribución a las tendencias democrático-liberales habidas en esa república por parte del krausismo español y la intervención en la reforma del sistema universitario costarricense de mediados del siglo XX de profesores españoles.
