Abstract
Abstract Seismic wave coherency in strong ground shaking is modeled in synthetic accelerograms to provide realistic input for engineering analysis of multi-supported structures. At present there is only a small number of available measured coherency functions, a seminal set coming from earthquake recordings by the SMART1 array in Taiwan. A comparison of coherency functions for both vertical and horizontal motions from a magnitude 5.5 earthquake recorded by the new SMART2 indicates no significant difference in the range 1 to 10 Hz for separation distances of 400, 800, and 1500 m.
