Abstract

This chapter describes results of experiments conducted to study transfer factor (TF) and skin grafts. The administration of TF from one individual to another to check its efficacy provided an opportunity to evaluate the effects of TF on skin homograft rejection. The observations were made in a situation in which the skin graft donor previously had received, by chance, TF from the skin graft recipient. The study revealed that the TF donor was grafted in a standard fashion with skin from the TF recipient three times over a period of a year. The first graft was rejected in 26 days, the second in 28 days and the third in 27 days. It is suggested that this peculiar delay in rejection and apparent lack of sensitization to the skin grafts was examined in the TF donor in several ways. A complete immunologic evaluation of the TF donor revealed no abnormalities in humoral immunity or delayed hypersensitivity.
