Abstract
The English National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting (ENB), in its final legacy to health care provision and practice, commissioned and funded an innovative research project to develop a range of educational resources designed to prepare nurses for practice within a Transcultural health care environment. After substantial piloting and peer review the flexible learning materials are now available on the Royal College of Nursing website. The ENB was closed in 2002, but the dedication and hard work of the project team and steering group have resulted in a substantial number of learning resources that are free to access and download. The author of this paper provides an outline of the project and introduces the concept of cultural competence.
