Abstract

Abstract The expression of exogenous genes in mammalian cells in culture has proved invaluable in a wide variety of applications. The advantages over the use of E. coli for the large-scale production of biologically active polypeptides stem from the ability of mammalian cells to undertake post-translational modification (e.g. proteolytic processing or glycosylation) of the gene product.
