Abstract

Qualitative and Quantitative Questionnaire Data Processing - Professional Bifurcations: We demonstrate here the cross-fertilization of qualitative and quantitative questionnaire data processing in the study vocational bifurcations. As a form of occupational mobility meeting the criteria of unpredictability, radicality and irreversibility, they are particularly well suited for this exercise. A question module of respondents’ assessment of their career transitions helps to identify, at first, with our eligible population. By reexamining job labels or descriptions, we conduct a “qualitative” data analysis to identify individuals experienced a professional bifurcation. Logistic regression is then used to generate configurations of factors that stimulate or restrict such mobility. Finally, a second “qualitative” analysis, making use of these statistical profiles, illustrates them by actual cases, and tends toward quasi-narratives of life course.
