Abstract

The British graduate physicist is widely acknowledged to be excellent, both because of the quality of British physics courses, and because the physics departments of British universities have had the pick of the country's intellectual elite when admitting undergraduates. Are these graduates always excellent for the purposes intended, though, because physics graduates can take up many different careers? The most important of these is industrial research and development, which involves more than just the straightforward application of physics.
