Abstract

This presentation describes how the recommendations from a survey of the views of a sample of visually impaired musicians on barriers to employment in the music business, undertaken in 2000, are being implemented by RNIB. The activities include a Concert Series offering performers professional feedback and demonstration material on areas the musicians request, a work placement at the BBC, and a day on presentation skills for performers at the Wigmore Hall. The evaluations of these activities show benefits to individual participants and to the wider community in raising awareness of the abilities of musicians with serious sight difficulties. Some participants have received more employment.
