Abstract

The Hijra community is an integral part of society as a whole. The objective of this article is to illustrate the community's traditional political system and its transformation. This studyhas been conducted by incorporating data from both primary and secondary sources in light of the objectives. The traditional political structure, which is mostly made up of Darajnis, Gurumas, and Challas, is one of the distinguishing characteristics of the political system. ‘Darajani’ is the supreme leader in this political structure, while ‘Guruma’ remains in charge of the followers. In other words, the Challa Hijras' traditional political protector is the Guruma. The main role that Guruma plays as having is that of a parent, guardian, or mother as guardian. He essentially handles all of the issues in Hijra society. Despite the intimate bond that exists between Guruma and Chelas, disagreements can sometimes arise between the two of them. When there is disagreement among the followers, Guruma settles it by himself. They are now interested in altering conventional politics and the greater political system since their gender identity is now recognized. Yet, many obstacles in the Hijras' daily and social lives will be resolved if their political rights are properly protected and they can establish their rights in their parents' property.
