Abstract

During his first five years in the full-time private practice of psychotherapy, the author collected data on the referrals made to him for therapy. The data indicates that monthly and seasonal fluctuations in referrals do not seem to be factors of major concern. The figures also show that a number of yearly referrals can grow at a rather rapid rate. Data on referral sources suggest that eventually a therapist does not have to rely on professional referral sources since referrals recommended by current and former clients may produce over 50% of new clients.
