Abstract

Trace analysis of iron below the ppm range has been achieved through the use of its colored ion-associated species with 2,4,6-tris(2′-pyridyl)- S-triazine and tetraphenylborate. The complex is quantitatively sorbed on the microcrystalline naphthalene under optimum conditions. The absorbance of the system in acetonitrile is linear in the range 0.2–2.5 ppm Fe(III) and use of this approach has been demonstrated in the analysis of alloys, commercial salts, and water samples.
