Abstract

Efforts to improve the quality of Education in Indonesia are done through improving infrastructure, competent educators and improving the quality of graduates. However, the quality of Education in some areas still needs attention. One of them is the amount of material content that is not comparable to the learning model applied. The use of expository learning models has become the habit of most teachers in Indonesia. Even though the implementation of learning causes low learning outcomes and student participation in learning activities. The application of participatory learning through group activities and critical thinking. This study aims to determine the influence of think pair square cooperative learning models to increase student participation and learning outcomes in Computer Systems subjects. This study uses a quantitative approach by determining sample classes through cluster- sampling-area techniques. The experimental class applies the think pair square cooperative learning model and the control class applies the expository learning model. Data retrieval is done through the method of learning outcomes tests, questionnaires and observations. The results showed a difference in the improvement of learning outcomes and student learning participation. The difference in the level of understanding through critical thinking activities causes the high learning outcomes of students in the experimental class by 47% compared to the control class by 18%. Think pair square cooperative learning can improve student learning outcomes and participation through critical thinking and group activities. If this learning model is applied effectively it can increase student participation
