Abstract

Three different tissue culture systems have been employed to study the behaviour of Toxoplasma gondii parasites in them. The results obtained are the following: 1. The PS-Y-15 cell line from swine kidney is the most suitable for maintaining Toxoplasma gondii in tissue culture. 2. The BS-C-1 cell line from Cercopithecus monkey kidney is the most suitable tissue for maintenance of this parasite at -196° C in liquid nitrogen. 3. Finally the SIRC line from corneal epithelium of adult rabbit may be employed both for freezing and maintenance of Toxoplasmas in culture provided a necessary technical device is adopted.
