Abstract
The European Research Group on Mobile Emission Sources (ERMES) is an open interest group that brings together European transport emission modelers and other stakeholders under the coordination of the European Commission Joint Research Centre. ERMES oversees the development of the leading road vehicle emission models in Europe (COPERT and HBEFA). This paper provides insight into a selection of current ERMES research issues (the development of emission factors for newer technology vehicles, the creation of tools for emissions data post-processing and the support to the monitoring of long-term emission reduction targets) that impact the estimation of road vehicle emissions in Europe.
